Conclusion: Art Spiegelman’s Maus transforms the concept of what a novel can be. Maus is the only graphic novel to win a Pulitzer. Maus is an emotionally haunting tale that forces the readers to not only focus on the nature of man and the relationships of the characters; it begs us to examine our own life. Never again will the reader look at graphic novels as a light hearted genre. Teacher’s Page: This project is designed for eleventh and twelfth grade Language Arts class. There are many resources available for Maus. I also highly recommend Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics: the Invisible Art.
